The university student, identified as Xia Lisha, died from malignant hyperthermia, a severe reaction caused by anaesthesia, during the procedure at Li Mei Kang Plastic Surgery Hospital in Guiyang, Guizhou province last Thursday. During the surgery, the girl experienced a high fever, increased heart rate and severe muscle spasms. She was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to the local government.
